WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

The best thing about working in fashion or if you want to work in fashion is that offices are a little more laid back about appropriate attire. Sure, this means we have a little more freedom. But freedom can be dangerous. Summer for example, is a tricky time to dress professionally. On the one hand, it’s crazy hot outside and all you want to wear is, well, nothing. On the other hand, you’re a working girl now and spaghetti straps and booty shorts won’t exactly fly. But don’t make the mistake of neglecting one of the most versatile wardrobe staples for summer: the short. Paired with a tucked-in blouse and blazer, it’s the newest version of the power suit. Keep the length appropriate and, when in doubt, do the plastic chair test. If you sit down on a chair and can feel the cool plastic on any part of your derrière, your shorts are too short! Save those bad boys for your days off.

This Fashionista has a keen sense of style and definitely likes to show it even when she is on the job. Her blazer is a warm weather ready chambray. It’s like she is wearing jeans to her internship, but not. With an already eye-catching blazer, she kept it simple with a knitted black tank top and white shorts. To keep this internship appropriate, her shorts are an appropriate length and her tank-top is not cut too low. To finish the look off she threw on a sparkling statement necklace and some mid-heel sandals for great comfort all day.

One Simple Change: This look is perfect for a warmer summer day or a more relaxed work environment. If shorts are not your thing, try a pair of slim or skinny dress pants. Just remember, leggings are not work appropriate pants, if you consider them pants already.
