STYLE GURU STYLE: What's Old is New

Overalls have certainly made a comeback this summer. These are one of my favorite trends in 2015 because of my denim obsession as well as how fun and laid back they are. Overalls have been styled in all different washes of denim as well as different lengths and cuts. They are also versatile as well as transitional.  This single piece garment can be dressed accordingly to the summer months as well as into the upcoming fall season. The key to mastering the overall trend is layering. Many street style magazines have featured models off duty throwing jackets over their full-length overalls, or finding ways to layer underneath, just as I did.

For my look, I took inspiration from a few of my favorite online bloggers, as well as from Ulla Johnson’s 2016 resort collection. Her show consisted of beautiful pops of bright color, floral and tassel embellishments, maxi dresses, slouchy pants and oversized blouses. Johnson explains to Style.com that she noticed in her recent trips to Japan that shoppers love the classic American style. People are infatuated with Vintage America, which is what most likely inspired the two pairs of denim overalls in her collection.

In order to recreate Johnson’s runway looks, I decided to rock some cut-off short overalls. I love this pair in particular because they are white rather than the typical blue jean wash. I paired them with a striped crop top that was simple but also gave some contrast to the all white one-piece. To keep it even more casual, I included a pair of high-top Converse. Fashionistas: If you are having trouble finding the perfect pair of short overalls, seek out your local thrift store and DIY a pair with your friends! My look is so simple yet trendy which is exactly how I love to dress during the summer time.

Get My Look: 1. Search for the perfect pair of overalls, fitted or oversized. 2. Layer underneath with a tank top, bralette or T-shirt. 3. Throw on your favorite sneakers.
