Normally, if someone were to describe a look featuring a flower crown and lace, one would probably imagine something bohemian or a pretty pretty princess. You can all imagine my amazement when I saw this Fashionista crossing the street near Union Sqaure. She looks like a goddess! She was able to perfectly combine my two styles of choice of being a flower child yet loving to wear all-black.
The wow factor of this look is definitely this Fashionista’s hairstyle. From far away, it almost looks like she has a beehive type hairdo going on. Upon closer inspection though you can see the intricate detail that makes it up. She uses a thick braided crown to make up the base of the updo. To add the volume and keep the braid in place, she wears a stretchy flower headband over the braid and I love the choice of the glittery black roses.
This Fashionista took a cue from her princess look and opted for light rosy makeup. Having the pops of color in her eyeshadow and lip, while keeping it very soft makes her look clean and fresh. Refreshing is just what this look asks for and the juxtaposition of this look is amazing. The lace baby doll top matches the theme of the look perfectly as well and she looks tough and girly at the same time. Her jelly sandals are a great alternative to the usual strappy sandal and I bet they are a lot more comfortable and easier to walk in too.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? In order to get this look naturally, your hair must be quite long. Not all of us have this going on so it’s totally okay to fake it. If you are using your natural hair, start a braid at the nape of your neck. If you are using fake hair then pull your hair into a low bun and secure the fake braid at the nape of your neck. Wrap the braid around your head, trying to keep close to your hairline. Secure the braid with bobby pins so it won’t slip. Once all the way around your hair, wrap the braid around the bun and secure, or wrap the natural braid around itself to create a bun at the back of your head. Place the flower headband just above the braid crown. If your hair is thinner and your crown is not as thick, try using smaller flowers so the proportions don’t look off. Also use flowers that are similar to your hair color to achieve this look.
