Sporting a classic navy and white T-shirt and camo color jeans, this Fashionista was a cool mix of a classic preppy style and ’90s grunge. Zoe Kravitz. Gwen Stefani, Mary-Kate Olsen; a few of the show-stopping Fashionistas I look to if I am going for an easygoing, punk-ish style. Designers like rag & bone, Dries Van Noten and Marc Jacobs are iconic designers known for their edgy looks. Ralph Lauren would not be put into that category, but this Fashionista’s Ralph Lauren top is what drew me to this outfit.
Since the ’60s, the Ralph Lauren brand has been an international fashion authority, putting its mark on virtually everything from tuxedos to tennis skirts. There have been many words used to describe the brand. Grungy has never been one of them. Actually, Ralph Lauren epitomizes the Americana style. I just had to stop this Fashionista to snap a few shots of her contrasting style. I could not quite define it, but I knew it was special. Something about mixing such a preppy top and boat shoes with a spiked out leather bag and layers upon layers of bracelets gave this look a layer of unique creativity. This look a compilation of so many different styles that I adore.
How To: Not much of a prep? Neither am I! But throwing in a classic piece in a casual way can really add dimension to a look. Try adding one article of clothing at a time and layer it with your favorite pieces, or your favorite jeans. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to mismatch genres!
