There are a few trends this summer that really stand out to me. Not only because of how adorable they are, but because of how practical they are for being out in the hot weather. Although this summer hasn’t been much of a scorcher for us here in Cincinnati, I love that these summer outfits and trends are versatile and easily modified to adapt to the cooler summer temps when necessary.
The trends that really seem to catch my eye this season are drapey tank tops, kimonos, soft shorts, gold geometric accessories and of course, gladiator sandals. During my lunch break at work is when I go browsing through Style.com checking out all of the different designers and their fabulous collections. One day while I was eating my Chipotle and sipping on my sparking water in the break room, I noticed that the Nanette Lepore resort 2016 collection is totally comparable to my own personal style interests. It’s safe to say that I am obsessed with the way Lepore channels a romantic Victorian vibe, off-the-shoulder blouses, corset-inspired lacing and lots of crochet.
The way these clothes fall off the shoulders and drape over the body so elegantly and her perfect use of shades of dusty pink, wisteria, cream and navy really allows for this collection to give off a bohemian and slightly mystical feel. The materials have lots of cutouts and are mostly crocheted, which makes for a very breathable and comfortable outfit. There is so much to love about this collection, but I especially adore the high-waisted shorts with detail buttons on the sides and the fabulous prints, patterns and colors that Lepore uses throughout.
I took the trends and style tips from this collection and tailored it to fit my own personal style by pairing embroidered navy soft shorts with a white strappy tank top. I totally love these soft shorts and let me tell you why…they are super comfortable. The shorts have adorable beaded embroidery details in the front and lace at the hem, the trendy tassel drawcord and let’s not forget about the best part of all, the roomy pockets! I zipped on my favorite gladiator sandals and I threw on a long crocheted cardigan because it’s been a little on the chillier side lately. But wait, my outfit wouldn’t be complete without some gold and teal accessories, so I put on my geometric drop earrings, fastened a gold chevron ring bracelet around my wrist and sported a teal statement ring on my hand. And because I spent most of the day lounging around outside, I had my favorite round shades on to protect my eyes from the sun.
