Comfort is one of my top priorities when planning an outfit. I choose my clothing based on what I plan to do on any given day, and since I move around a lot I love sticking to layers and stretchier fabrics. However, once in a while there’s always a day when the comfortable items in my closet don’t seem to match the season.
The other day, I was heading out to the spend the day shopping on a hot street and sitting inside a cold movie theater. I searched through my closet for a removable outer layer, but only found a terrifying lack of blazers and similar jackets that are appropriate for all seasons.
My quick fix was to take some inspiration from the Gucci resort 2010 collection, which layered loose-fitting and neutral colored jackets and sweaters over normal summer clothing to make outfits that are good for any occasion. My summer piece was a white dress with lace detailing. For the warmer, removable layer, I chose a chambray shirt whose color was light enough to distract from the fact that I was wearing long sleeves in 90-degree weather.
The models in the collection wore high summer wedges, but I switched those out for some printed TOMS shoes. They added some much-needed color, don’t you think? I also added a chunky watch and some bangles to accessorize. It turned out to be a comfortable, casual look that worked inside and in the heat!
