Tarzan and Jane, Baloo and Mowgli, George of the jungle…what do they all have in common? Besides their fictional existences, they all live amongst the lush vegetation found in the jungle. While I do not myself live in the jungle, my H&M palm-printed dress may have very well walked out of the trees; I even made a point of finding some green palms to pose with in my dress. If nothing else can be said about what is on-trend this summer, you should know that prints are very big and very in. Nicole Miller resort 2016 may have some plain pieces thrown into her lineup, but the stand out pieces of the collection boast loud vegetation-inspired prints. My absolute favorite look featured a white dress printed with black silhouette and soft violet birds of paradise. The juxtaposition of the sharp white, stark black and soft, cool colors make the summer look especially fresh and edgy. Each outfit is paired with an open-toed shoe of some sort, usually a gladiator sandal. The overall feel of the collection is very “cool girl meets minimal effort.”
Taking a style cue from Nicole Miller, I started building my look by finding my stand out print dress. The main criteria: it had to have lightweight material for the 90+ humidity on Kiawah Island and the dress had to be able to camouflage me in the jungle. Double check (but said like the State Farm guys). The standout victor is a flowy V-neck I picked up this past weekend at H&M. Any outfit worth imitating needs shoes worth envying: my go-to sandals this summer are these low heel Mudd sandals in Cognac with gold buckles. They are cute but also very walkable after I broke them in—I still have the scar on my ankle from the blister! To match the gold buckles, I added my gold GUESS necklace and a mixed metal AKRIBOS XXIV men’s watch. As the sprinkles to my Sunday outfit, I stacked up seven silver rings and two leather bracelets. Now I can see why my mom always called me “Miss Matched.” Rounding out the look are my natural, wavy ombrė locks and my double zipper Coach wristlet. Side note: can you see the irony in my outfit? I’m 6’1” and I’m dressing up as a tree! Perfect, now I can leaf.
Get My Look: 1. A printed dress/romper. 2. Gladiator sandals. 3. A men’s watch. 4. A black wristlet.
