I’ll assume you’ve heard the news Fashionistas? Just last week Donna Karan of Donna Karan International, a brand that has catered to working women since Karan founded the company decades ago, stepped down from her role as chief designer. Inspired by the fact that the past few collections DKNY has released must have been some of the designer’s most self-satisfying work, I treated myself to the spring ready-to-wear fashion show.
I noticed the choker trend right away. The last time I had worn one was in middle school with my gauchos. I can’t say I was thrilled to see that it had made a comeback (same goes for the gauchos). Surpisingly, I didn’t mind wearing a choker 10 years later. It added a funky vibe to my ’70s-inspired ensemble. In order to make the transition from middle school to high fashion, I ditched the dime a dozen stretchy wire choker and upgraded to a more glam beaded option.
In addition to the choker accessory, it seems the platform shoe has also made a comeback from the decade of love and war. I have to admit I was unsure about this style of footwear, but after seeing different variations in multiple retailers I convinced myself that I at least had to try it out. Surprisingly, I’d say this pair of metallic sandals not only flattered my feet, but the extra foam padding made them extremely comfortable. In fact, I will most likely purchase another pair with an even higher platform and I encourage you all to do the same!
I loved the black and white aztec-inspired print that made up the middle of the show. Glamour magazine featured the black and white fad as one of the top trends for summer and used DKNY as their example. This basic color combination is ideal because you can add a pop of color like Donna Karan or a bold metallic element like in my featured ensemble. The jumpsuit I’m sporting for this article pulled both the 1970s theme and the black and white print trend together to create the perfect ready-to-wear interpretation of this season’s trends.
Get My Look: 1. A modern style choker. 2. A black and white printed jumpsuit. 3. Pair of a metallic platform sandals.
