Generally, my wardrobe is made of black, black and oh, more black. It’s a staple color in my closet to say the least and it’s hard to venture from. I think black never fails in the “looking good” category, literally meaning it ALWAYS looks good and is hard to mess up.
On occasion, I’m grateful to find a little inspiration to venture away from my norm and add a pop of color. Looking at the Band of Outsiders pre-fall 2015 collection, the denim and navy blue variations caught my eye. The navy and denim shades paired with creams and yellows are a perfect late summer color combination, bringing in a fun, sophisticated and even romantic look. This collection even had some of the pieces appear seemingly different when alone and by themselves, yet when combined together they brought a great preppy and boho vibe. The variation in textures and fits, from crochet and felt to sundresses and tailored blazers was a component I admired about this collection. I Â thought it was fitting for the brand as it definitely allows them to stand out and be bold.
Taking inspiration from the collection, I chose a solid, navy blazer as my pop of color and focal point of my outfit. Going along with the theme, I contrasted the blue to make it stand out even more by pairing a solid white mini skirt and simple white T-shirt together. Similar to the collection’s look I went with tan ankle boots, hoping to keep the casual and sophisticated look as it did. As for jewelry, I incorporated one small pop of color with the kate spade gumdrop earrings in hot pink, and chose to go with simple gold pieces for the necklace and bangle.
The combination of the pieces and colors make for a perfect standout look when you’re on the way to your summer internship or headed off to grab coffee and shop with your best girlfriend. Blazers are excellent transition items for in-between seasons such as summer and fall, when the weather can be a bit tricky. The same goes for booties! Investing in a pair of comfortable ankle boots will be your favorite purchase yet when the seasons start to change and you realize how often you’re still wearing them.
