STYLE GURU STYLE: The Modern Sporty

The spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection from Balenciaga unmistakably features a sporty, clean-cut trend in black and white. This modernistic approach covers off-the-shoulder dresses, floor-length jackets and two-piece sets with lots (I mean lots) of mesh. There’s something about these designs that speaks volumes to the average girl. Maybe it’s the, “I woke up like this” sense of effortlessness they give off or the level of simplicity they depict that somehow manages to possess a wow factor. But to me, it’s the athletic undertones that makes this streetwear so incredible yet doable.

I have been combining sportswear with my everyday clothes nonstop since the start of summer, so this runway show has, in fact, left a lasting impact on me. As someone who metaphorically stands for killing two birds with one stone, I try to avoid the hassle of changing into different outfits throughout the day at all costs. If I can wear something that can be suitable for multiple occasions, whether that be class or a sports game, I will go out of my way to do it. Layers are easily my go-to when it comes to this, and it’s quite evident with my black Ralph Lauren chino hat and tied gray sweatshirt. Due to its versatility, I have been pairing this baseball cap with anything you can possibly think of. In this particular look, I slightly dressed it down by donning it with a black crochet halter top, ripped black jeans and cutout oxford. By matching my clothes with my hat, I’m playing down the athletic trend rather than emphasizing it. Although this look has been the essence of my summer, the sporty look is only an undertone, and I know I will for sure continue reinforcing it into my wardrobe.

Get My Look: 1. Black crochet halter top. 2. Ralph Lauren chino baseball cap. 3. Black ripped jeans.
