I can’t believe it’s already been a month since I’ve been back in Shanghai, China. Because it’s a large and incredibly modern city, naturally there is that one street where all the fashionable people gather—so naturally that is where I went to find Fashionistas.
The area that I went to is called Xintiandi, which means “A New World” in English. It is a trendy pedestrian district with lots of well-known restaurants, cafes and world-class shops. When someone tells you that they are going to Xintiandi, you know that they will make an effort to look nice, even if its just for a casual coffee date.
This Fashionista wore a pair of dark gray skinny jeans, with a black and white patterned top and a pair of basic flats. To complete her outfit she wore a vintage tattoo bracelet, a golden studded purse and a pair of oversized sunglasses. Her choice of color for her outfit highlights and complements her lightly dyed brown hair. She said that she tries to wear more muted colors so that her hair would stand out more.
In China, it is becoming more common for people to dye their hair because of trends started by Asian celebrities. K-pop and J-pop groups are notorious for having neon hair colors such as turquoise, orange or yellow. Although this Fashionista’s choice of hair color is not as bold, she is still able to dress it up and make her hair shine. Standing out doesn’t always necessarily mean being the boldest.
