I’m willing to bet that when you think of mom jeans, the notion conjures up memories of ’90s television series such as Beverly Hills, 90210, and not to mention the infamous SNL skit. If you haven’t seen it already, hop on YouTube pronto and look it up!
The mom jean began to get a bad rep when the style became more frumpy than ever and when Britney Spears featured the must-have super—and I mean super—low-rise jean. With a recent blast from the past in fashion, it is out with the new and in with the vintage making your ensemble fashion-forward and unexpected. Just remember to stay away from pleats and check out your rear before you make any purchases.
This Fashionista caught my attention immediately with her edgy denim. I have to admit I was staring at her constantly during my pedicure. Her pair of jeans are a cross between boyfriend and mom jeans. The relaxed look that still frames her body, accentuating her waist and still does justice to her derrière, are all of the reasons why the mom jean is back and better than ever. Her jeans can ultimately be paired with anything, taking them from day to night, but this Fashionista kept her look comfy and simple by tucking in a basic graphic T-shirt. To use the mom jean style properly and take advantage of the high waist, tucking in your top is a must! To finish off her look she added some patterned sneakers, lace headbands as arm candy, and layered a few necklaces.
What is your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK? “I never wear skinny jeans because they’re uncomfortable and limit me from doing things. I have a million pairs of looser fitting jeans because they’re easy to throw on without the wiggling and jumping to get them on. They also give a nice vintage look to the outfit.”
