Roses are red, violets are blue, it’s 2015 and your hair could be too! Men and women have been coloring their luscious locks for centuries. This ancient art has grown into a multibillion dollar industry that continues to captivate people of all ages. Lately, a sea of unnaturally colored manes has been taking over the world. Style icons Katy Perry, Rihanna, Demi Lovato and Kylie Jenner have all been seen this year rocking an alternative hair color, which is why I was especially excited to see this blue-haired beauty at the local museum on campus.
She could pass as a piece of art herself in her flirty floral dress that accented her hair perfectly. Dresses are great! Aside from coordinating shoes and maybe a bag, they are the easiest outfits to execute, simply because the job is basically done for you. The ease of execution can be a curse or a blessing though. Far too often I see young ladies who toss on a dress and a pair of shoes and call it a day. The outcome is far from bad but it lacks flare and originality. This Fashionista’s alternative hair color is what sets her apart from every other girl wearing a cute dress. Fact of the matter is she is probably the bell of the ball in anything she wears because her blue ‘do complements her features quite well.
With that being said, if you are considering a bold color change there are a few things you should take into consideration. Pick a color that complements your skin tone; this is important with any hair coloring, but is especially crucial with untraditional hair colors. Blues, pinks and purples usually look great on cooler skin tones, whereas warm skin tones might rock a red, orange or coral color best. If you are unsure of your skin tone or need help picking a good color, ask your hair dresser. If you don’t have a hair dresser, get one! Please do not try to do it yourself; it will likely be a huge mistake! Finally, remember timing is everything: make sure your program at school, internships and jobs will approve of your new look.
What’s on the BEAUTY BAR? To complete this look, you will need a funky hair color and a licensed hair dresser. Just remember to pick a color you love and a color that loves you. Once your hair is that fierce hot pink you’ve been wanting, try showing it off by coordinating it into your outfit like this Fashionista did in her floral dress and modest flats.
