There is nothing a good print can’t do—for example, a dress with a great pattern is really easy to wear and at the same time it’s proven be the center of attention. After taking a look at Karen Walker’s resort 2016 collection, I could immediately see how easy it was to create great looks just by combining a piece with an statement making print. The collection features dresses and skirts with incredible shapes. They have a futuristic look but are also very elegant. I personally love them as they make every outfit look out of this world. However, as in most Karen Walker collections, her prints are the stars. The designer proposes an excellent example of how easily big patterns, though feared by many, can be worn in an easy yet sophisticated way.
I must confess I normally tend to gravitate towards neutrals and my personal philosophy is that basics provide endless opportunities. However after looking at the collection I decided to give a printed dress an opportunity. It was no easy task finding one with a pattern I really loved and would feel comfortable in, I finally found a midi length dress with bright colors that would look perfect during summer and transitioning into fall. Also, inspired by the collection I decided to take it to the next level, totally step out of my comfort zone and wear it with heels. I wanted my shoes to look very feminine but that would let the dress do all the talking as in Walker’s collection.
