Never have I ever thought that I needed bright neon grunge in my life until now. It’s never made more sense. Why not spice up the grungy grays and charcoal blacks with neon orange and electric blue? Grunge is a style, but it’s not always defined by a specific color scheme, and I’m about to explain why it shouldn’t be.
Oversized light wash jeans and baggy sweatshirts are the epitome of ’90s grunge, characteristically worn in muted colors, maybe some pastels to break up the monotony. While I love this trend just as much as the next girl, I was so excited to see it done so beautifully with such vibrant colors.
Check out how this Fashionista used traditional grunge silhouettes like platform sandals, a cropped oversized sweatshirt and ultra-baggy boyfriend jeans cinched with a classic black belt. They pulled out all the stops for this wonderfully unique outfit. By creating contrast using the color wheel to their advantage, the simple silhouette was miraculously intensified. The neon orange, and electric blue are contrasting colors while their sunny yellow earrings provide an unexpected transition between the two.
This technique is absolutely perfect and necessary in anyone’s wardrobe because it’s a beautiful way to add color to an otherwise gray scale summer wardrobe for all those ’90s babes out there.
How To: Pick out your favorite ’90s trend, maybe some high-waisted Levi Brand Jeans, or a black and gray flannel. Then pair it with two or more bright, contrasting pieces. Some contrasting colors include purple and yellow, green and pink, or blue and orange. Don’t be afraid of color discourse!
