STYLE GURU STYLE: Frock On

Fashion, to me, is an outward manifestation of one’s personality and preferences in the most creative way. My style is simple; I’ve come to accept that now. I believe more in letting the true beauty of certain pieces and people’s natural features shine through than overwhelming oneself with too many accessories and articles of clothing. That’s why I have stopped trying to overdress myself and started embracing my minimalistic and classic sense of style.

I felt inspired by the Giambattista Valli resort 2016 collection in choosing this outfit. This collection is filled with fun florals and other bold prints in every color of the rainbow. Most of the models donned strappy gladiator sandals that gave the girly, summery collection a refreshing edginess. It’s sort of a fashion risk, trying to mix feminine pieces with harsher, more masculine ones, although I think women have fabulously reinvented this classical combat footwear. Mixing these varying styles can be kind of fun and funky though, and it’s an admirable feat if you can do it right.

Gladiator sandals are all the rage right now. From short ankle wrap to strappy knee-high styles, basically any Fashionista can find a pair that transforms herself into a Grecian goddess in no time. I’ve always been a huge fan of the wrapped style, so when these sandals became popular this summer, I had to pull this pair out of my closet shoe vault for maybe the first time since my junior prom. I love these sandals because they are somehow statement-making and subtle at the same time. I chose them for this outfit for that reason; I feel that they still let my dress do the talking while adding another interesting dimension to this look.

I’ve had my eye on this gorgeous Free People dress for months, and I finally built up enough courage to click the “Proceed to Checkout” button on the website. At risk of looking like a giant Jack-O-Lantern, I chose the deep orange color inspired by the bold palette of the Giambattista Valli resort 2016 collection. I always tend to pick neutral pieces so this was a sort of fashion risk for me, if you will. Deviating from the structured shapes of this collection, I chose a more flowy silhouette which brings in a sense of my personal style to this look. Hey, if I do give off that pumpkin vibe in this dress, it’s really all right; autumn is my favorite season.
