Who doesn’t love a good all-black outfit? Whether you’re Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Victoria Beckham or even just yourself, all-black ensembles ensure that you look flawless no matter which pieces you choose. All-black pieces can easily help you achieve the Joan Jett look or even the Angelina-Jolie-at-the-Oscars look. I love this philosophy, and so do designers Annelie Augustin and Odély Teboul of Augustin Teboul, whose Berlin spring 2016 collection has every bit of black you could want.
So how does one wear an all-black outfit in the summer without looking like Morticia Addams? Not to hate on Morticia. She is an actual queen. But when you think of summer, bright colors usually come to mind. So if you’re like me and love black, you have to work a little harder to make sure your all-black outfit is seasonally appropriate, namely by choosing lightweight fabrics and more flowy cuts. And, like the Augustin Teboul Berlin spring 2016 collection, focusing on one major detail in a sea of all-black is the key to success.
My outfit is what I would call dressy-boho, and it’s perfect for a night out. And surprise! It’s actually not a romper, but a long-sleeved black boho top with cutouts paired with flowy black shorts. A long sleeve top can be risky in the summertime in southern California just because of the heat. But choosing lightweight fabrics like polyester or cotton blends prevent you from getting too hot. And the differentiation of fabrics is subtle enough to ensure that the cutouts in my shirt (the major detail) takes precedence. Pairing the look with a shiny pair of gladiator sandals provides an eye-catching detail and lends a summery feel to the overall outfit.
