STYLE GURU STYLE: Making Waves

It is now officially August, and summer is in full swing. With the weather in the mid-90’s, the only thing on my mind is being on the lake. Thankfully, 3.1 Phillip Lim’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear line exemplifies perfectly the inner longing of my soul. This collection showcases pieces dedicated to a summer resort vacation, with a ’70s vibe. What sticks out the most, is the delicate and beautifully crafted wave hem-line featured in multiple looks. Looks three and four, in particular, caught my eye. The effect of the flowing hem provides the perfect dimension to the ensemble and closely resembles the look of a moving body of water, perfect for summer days on the beach.

Flash forward a few months, I picked up this top from Urban Outfitters, attracted to the unique cut. This happened to be one of those items I was drawn to, but not sure how to wear, being slightly intimidated by its girly shape. After viewing Phillip Lim’s collection, however, I feel completely intrigued. The way he paired the featured wave garments with boxy, high-waisted or masculine pieces play well together and balance the ensembles nicely. This concept motivated me to find a way to rock this alternative hemline. Being inspired by both lake life and Lim’s collection, I was definitely seeing waves.

I knew I needed to pair this top with a high-waisted bottom, being as it is incredibly short. I gravitated towards this tight, black, denim skirt to play off the baggy flowing top. I threw on a beanie to add a masculine edge to the girly shape and picked these wild platform sneakers to add a pop of color.

Get My Look: 1. Find a wave-inspired crop top. 2. Pair it with a high-waisted skirt. 3. Throw on some funky sneakers.
