All hail the power of overalls. Whether you dress them down or up, they are impeccably comfortable to wear all day long. In addition, they can be worn year-round during mild summer outings and thrown over tights in the winter. This type of versatility is a major deciding factor when it comes to my own shopping practices, as I don’t purchase clothing that I can’t imagine wearing multiple ways. Plus, if I can’t visualize wearing an item with a majority of the other items in my wardrobe, I won’t purchase it. I’d like to think this helps avoid impulse shopping; although I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have an urge to buy more mustard yellow clothing after seeing these overalls.
For such a strong and unconventional color, I found it best to wear my overalls with neutral colors like Jaeger London’s spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection. Throughout the collection, hues of yellow serve as the focal point against navy and cream colored clothing. In particular, a Parisian-chic look featuring mustard culottes and a wide-brimmed hat inspired my look for the day.
Keeping the Jaeger stripe theme in place, I paired my overalls with a simple striped T-shirt. I almost always wear my black River Island fedora (guilty), but there’s something about pairing them with overalls that instantly channels the same Parisian street look. For my other accessories, I opted for a minimal black purse to carry light essentials and a turquoise beaded necklace. My favorite thing about this statement necklace is that I can wear it low enough to avoid being tucked inside my overalls.
Get My Look: 1. Colored overalls. 2. Minimal boxy purse. 3. Turquoise statement necklace.
