STYLE GURU STYLE: Leaf Lovin'

For an industry known for many of its workers wearing all-black (I’m looking at you PR girls), the fashion industry’s resort collections are a chance to see what designers would want to see everyone wearing while basking in the sun. Seeing as summer is all about sunshine, I decided designers’ resort collections would be a perfect place to find summer outfit inspiration.

I was specifically inspired by Nicole Miller’s 2016 resort collection and its refined essence of summer. The color palette, print and overall ease of the collection provided a laid-back breathe easy feeling that I always associate with summer. Nature motifs, such as palm tree leaves were another prominent feature of the collection that I was immediately inspired by.

In order to recreate my own resort look, I decided to stick to the flow, patterns and color palette of Nicole Miller’s 2016 resort collection. I echoed the navy and white palm leaf print found in the collection in a flowy sleeveless top similar to the flowy silhouettes of many of the pieces in the collection. Then I paired the leaf print top with crisp white shorts also found in the collection’s color palette.

Nicole Miller’s ensembles shied away from extravagant accessories so I tried to do the same with the help of simple gold bangles as well as a small detailed necklace. I added some fun for the sun with taupe winged eye sunglasses that were still consistent with the collection’s color palette. My look was completed with white slip-on sandals.
