The one “it” item this summer is not a thing, but rather a whole style. We are talking about music festival style that is. When we think of this particular look, a few things automatically come to mind: flower headbands, fringe anything, bohemian frocks, denim cut-offs, fedoras. Festival fashion definitely has its tried and true trends, and when Coachella officially kicks off the festival season, they always seem to return.
But, as we all know, the landscape of music festivals extend far into other parts of the world. And, quite frankly, we can’t all suit up for those festivals like we would for the California desert. This year, at least in Canada, it’s all about the maxi dresses.
There is something so easy about this style of dress; maybe that is why Alberta Ferretti focused her resort 2016 collection around them. It’s hard to miss, with hippie vibes displayed through elaborate prints and flowy material throughout. This look seems to have been designed with the city girl-turned-weekend traveller in mind, and I’m not complaining one bit. The showstoppers were certainly these three dresses and when paired side by side, it’s hard not to see a Free People ad. With a muted palette, contrasted by pops of blue, these items are less vacation wear and more gypsy dreamer.
In order to re-create this runway look with daily wear, I pulled out my dreamiest dress. With a neutral palette and wildflower print, I felt ready to tackle any and all upcoming festivals. This dress also has subtle details making it extra beautiful, such as the gold buttons and a slip underneath, so the focus stays on the dress and off of your skivvies. To add an extra touch, I paired a gemstone necklace in the same colour palette and an even daintier gold chain. To keep comfy, I pulled out my favourite gladiator sandals to ensure I would be good to walk for miles.
