I’ve been channeling a bit of Zuhair Murad’s signature “refined and risqué” during my recent outings, and on Monday I decided to bring some of that personality to class. I wanted to do this because I knew it would make my day-to-night transition a lot quicker and easier if I didn’t have to completely change my outfit at the twilight of each day. Besides, there’s never any harm to adding a touch of high fashion to your every day outfits.
This particular outfit was inspired by a look in Murad’s spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. This collection is full of outfits that are very open and free flowing. Murad structured his pieces to not only accent a woman’s figure, but to give a sense of the wind flowing in each look. The majority of the outfits’ color schemes were simply monochrome or black and white color-block. He had nine multicolored outfits in his whole collection, but each still centers around one color. All his looks demand a presence. But it only took me a moment to zero in on the third outfit from look seven. I knew it would be the perfect look to translate for strolling around campus.
The collection to its core is a bit too provocative for going to class so I had to tone it down bit, but I did not stray from Murad’s triple threat: crochet, lace and sheer. My top consists of two separate pieces. I am wearing a lace bralette from Urban Outfitters under a crochet crop top. The crop top was actually originally a crop cardigan handed down from my mother. I sewed it together to create this crop top. My chiffon Ann Taylor maxi skirt added a touch of the sheer effect most of Murad’s clothing carries. Then, since Murad’s inspiration was an elegant gypsy, I decided the best accessories to wear had to be boho to the bone. I put on bangles and a necklace with a coin collar.
