If you haven’t gotten the memo, the ’90s are back. Say hello to chokers, white Converse and the epic jean jacket. Growing up, I was introduced to the popular jean jacket, along with every other child in school. There was everything from dark to light denim, and even some hot pink hues as well. We all know it was “the thing” to have. As the years came and went, so did the must-have jean jacket. Now, not only is it back, it’s another essential!
Jean jackets have been worn by celebrities and are also featured in Faith Connexion‘s line, as well as other designer collections. Connexion’s collection features jean jackets paired with skinny black tanks. I mirrored this look by pairing my simple black maxi with a lightly patterned jean shirt. Instead of wearing my maxi with a kimono or cardigan, I decided to follow the denim trend to create a hipper look.
Don’t be afraid to wear T-shirts, collared shirts, pearls or gold chains with your subtle denim statement piece. While it might not be right for the office, it’s appropriate almost everywhere else. Be bold and pair your denim jacket with a mini, a maxi, your go-to black pants, white jeans or even a pencil skirt. Word of caution: make sure the fit is right. Snug is better and gives off a somewhat dressier vibe. An oversized jean jacket has the potential to swallow your outfit, making it the opposite of a great fashion statement. Start dreaming in denim. Let blue be your hue.
