Designers are so lucky—they have the ability to do basically whatever they want in fashion, call it art, and there’s a pretty good chance they’ll be accepted as a new fashion prodigy. When they mix and match their prints, fabrics, colors and go to the extreme, it’s edgy and awesome and sparks a new trend. When I mix and match my outfit, it’s all “hey are you ok…do you know your socks don’t match?” It’s not shocking to find that Stella Jean created a collection full of masterfully created mismatched ensembles. Known for fun and fresh takes on the latest fashions, the brand never misses the opportunity to have a bold collection. I was inspired by the Stella Jean fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection to try my hand at mixing and matching prints.
Because I do not have quite the daring style as shown in the collection, I decided to downplay my mixing and matching (at least for now). I took two of my favorite pieces of clothing and decided that I could wear the two together, because I knew I would be more comfortable and confident in pieces that I really enjoyed. I decided to pair a J.Crew butterfly print scarf with a THML tunic dress. One thing I noticed in the Stella Jean collection is that there is always a color that runs throughout the whole outfit to tie everything together, as well as a pop of color. For me, the blue in both pieces tied the outfit together, and the red scarf added an extra pop of color. I decided to keep the rest of my outfit pretty tame, hence why I opted for simple sandals and a purse that wouldn’t take away from the rest of the outfit. For jewelry, I wore a small bracelet that would let the scarf be the main accessory as well. While I may have created a more tame mix-and-match outfit, never be afraid to extend your boundaries and wear an outfit you may be reluctant to try out!
Get My Look: 1. A tunic dress. 2. A fun scarf. 3. Minimalist sandals.
