STYLE GURU STYLE: Blacked Out

We have seen white make a huge revival this summer, from white accent pieces to all white. While I totally love this trend, as somebody who personally loves black clothes, it is not a must-try trend for me. As I have had a total fashion transformation, my idea of a summer wardrobe is not traditional. I ditched the chino shorts, sundresses and sandals for black jeans, pleather peplum tops and booties. It is essential that while I rock all black, I do not come off as gothic, or overheat in the summer sun.

Both of these are executed perfectly in Barbara í Gongini’s Copenhagen 2015 Collection. Black is the main focus, with many outfits being black-on-black or having a heavy black base with other neutral accents. It has a great use of layers and textures such as wool, leather, fur, etc. The collection features dramatic, high-fashion looks that can be modified for everyday wear. Gongini includes key pieces that can be incorporated into a ton of different outfits, such as combat boots, scarves, jackets and denim.

I took inspiration from the collection and channeled it into an outfit that is both wearable and versatile. I could wear this to an interview, out to dinner or around town during the upcoming fall months. I paired simple, classic black skinny jeans that fit well and have a lightweight feel. I rocked a black peplum top with fun and unique pleather detailing, which kept it classy but added a modern twist. Booties are the perfect shoe for this look because they are versatile, comfortable and always fashionable. Adding some flair to the outfit, I wore bangles and a few different rings and midi rings scattered throughout my fingers. Keeping it simple, I wore my hair down and natural with simple winged eyeliner and a coral lip color.

Get My Look: 1. Black skinny jeans. 2. Black pleather peplum top. 3. Black booties.
