I really love fashion, but I really hate paying for it. And because I’m not about to break the law and shoplift, I gather inspiration from runway looks and look for cheaper alternatives. This look was loosely inspired by the Chanel resort 2016 collection. I really like the black and tan floral print, but I don’t think that this look could be worn on a college campus without receiving weird looks.
The jeans, boots and printed top is a classic combination that can be worn to class, to the bar, wherever! For this look, I combined a top that had a similar pattern to the Chanel one with jeans and trendy wedge-heeled boots. I finished the look off with a pair of oversized earrings and a black bag. I thought that the bag had a Céline luggage tote vibe, yet it was distinct enough not to look like a cheap replica.
Trends from the runway are impossible for most college students to afford, and no one will know if you are faking it. By shopping at stores like Old Navy and LOFT, you can still get trendy pieces at a fraction of the price of designer garments. Karl Lagerfeld once said, “trendy is the last stage before tacky,” so why would you want to spend a lot on something you might only wear a few times before it goes out of style?
Instead, save your money for going out to dinner with friends, spontaneous road trips and traveling when abroad. College memories will last forever, while trends will not.
