STYLE GURU STYLE: Don't Forget Your Cape

It’s my favorite time of the year…back-to-school shopping! I love reading all the fall look books, keeping up with the upcoming trends of the year, and spending hours at my favorite stores picking out my first day of class outfit. In my opinion, autumn by far is the best season to dress for. There are so many different outfit combinations when you get to bundle up in lots of layers. Also, change is in the air with the beginning of a new semester, which means it is the perfect time to switch up your style for a new you.

When thinking about what I wanted to do with my wardrobe this coming fall, I looked at the Lanvin pre-fall 2015 collection and immediately was intrigued. The look book is mostly black and white with a few pops of red here and some floral patterns there. I loved how every look plays with textures and layers, using everything from fur coats to capes. There was also a lot of masculinity playing into the collection, as the designer had very tailored suits and jackets paired with more men’s styled shoes.

The idea of adding masculinity into my wardrobe really interested me, since that is something I normally don’t incorporate, and what better time to try something new. I started out with a new pair of black oxfords. Bringing back all-black for the colder months, I tucked in a high neck tank top into a circle skirt, pairing it with a classic pair of my favorite DKNY tights. To finish off my outfit I added my cozy black cape, which mimicked the oversized blanket-like coats seen in the Lanvin collection. And finally, I had to throw on my leather gloves in order to fully embrace the soon to come fall season.

Get My Look: 1. A pair of black oxfords 2. A big cape 3. Leather gloves.
