STYLE GURU STYLE: The '70s Called

It is the summer of the ’70s. The runways are taking a time machine back to the decade known for bell bottoms, tie-dye and wrap dresses. It was a time in fashion where the flower child and the disco dancer came together. New silhouettes and patterns were emerging and creating the latest looks. The ’70s was an exciting time in fashion, and one of my favorites. One designer who incorporated the far out decade in their clothes was Frida Giannini, in her Gucci spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. It was full of the ’70s style with a modern twist. The looks ranged from casual to night on the town. Jeans, jackets, dresses, skirts, were all seen with that unique ’70s style. Beautiful colors walked down the runway; rich earth tones and deep jewel colors.

I was inspired to come up with an outfit that could fit right into the Gucci collection. Two fabrics that I kept seeing throughout were denim and suede. The two together screams ’70s. My denim button-down, a great closet staple, was paired with my suede shorts. Suede shorts are a definite yes this summer. It is a refreshing change from denim shorts. I left half my shirt untucked to create a more laid back vibe with the outfit. The two different types of material make a lovely combination. My Jeffrey Campbell Litas have a wooden heel that ties in with the earthy tones. The platforms are also very ’70s. An outfit would be nothing without some accessories. I layered two necklaces, one long necklace and the other, a statement necklace. Just like the Gucci spring collection, I felt very ’70s but still modern. It’s always important to incorporate that modern in so your outfit doesn’t look like a ’70s costume. Pretty groovy outfit, right?
