Hey there, Fashionistas! My name is Brittany Thorburn, and I’m so excited to be a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista this semester. I am a freshman at Christopher Newport University, located in Newport News, Virginia. I plan on majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, in hopes to one day work in the business side of the fashion industry.
My interest in fashion began as a fun way to express myself, but within the past year, my interest has grown to a possible career field. During my senior year of high school, I was a part of the Nordstrom BP. Fashion Board. I met once a month with other high school girls in my surrounding area. At the meetings, I was able learn about some awesome behind the scenes things about the fashion industry, connect with fashion pros and make a few stylish friends! I’ve also had the privilege to work with my my high school’s fashion show, where students displayed handmade pieces ranging from wearable art to clothing made from recycled materials. During my junior and senior year, I worked as the Public Relations coordinator, where I created advertisements and programs, contacted and recruited judges and managed the Facebook account. I was able to share the talent of my peers within my surrounding community and work with an art form I’m passionate about.
While my personal style has been years in the making, I’ve always remained classic and simple. I love trying new and popular trends, but taking them down a notch. Instead of a full on trendy outfit, I take one or two new pieces into my wardrobe and work them with my basics.
Besides fashion, I have a love for being active and adventurous. I’m always down for traveling to new places, trying new foods and meeting new people. I love going to the gym, but hiking through the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains is my favorite workout. In my down time, I’m usually in my ENO hammock. It’s my favorite place to study and just chill. I also love hanging with friends, or going on a killer shopping trip.
