Hello, my name is Alexis Atkins. This fall I will be entering my junior year at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia. I am majoring in Fashion Marketing and Management, hoping to one day become either a fashion buyer, writer or brand ambassador. Luckily, with two more years to go, I have a little bit more time to narrow down my path in the world of fashion.
Style can be defined in so many ways, but for me, it is not meant to be forgiven. It’s about wearing what best represents who you are and rocking it. If you love wearing bright colors and long socks, go for it! It’s all about authenticity!
When choosing clothes for myself, I always look for three things. First, I ask myself how timeless the garment is. Will my future children have a laughing fit if they saw a picture of me wearing it? Or would they want to borrow it some day? I find that button-down shirts, fit and flare dresses and clean-cut blazers seem to never be out of style, so I often gravitate towards these items.
Next I look to see if the clothes are comfortable. Can I make it through a lecture without fidgeting in my desk or be able to endure long tests?
Last, but definitely not least, I focus on the color and print of the fabric. I am obsessed with statement prints and colors for many reasons, but mainly because they can be used in so many unexpected and unique ways to represent yourself and your personality. Throw on a bright yellow cross-body bag or a houndstooth jacket and your look is instantly elevated with loads of personality and confidence. All eyes will be on you.
This fall, there are so many styles I cannot wait to try out once the Savannah weather cools off, especially the new mock-neck sweaters I’ve seen in H&M’s 2015 fall catalog. I think when they are paired with a blazer and cuffed denim jeans, magic happens.
Heading in to my second term with CollegeFashionista, I am ready to scout for the best fall fashions the Savannah College of Art and Design has to offer!
