Hello there, Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Anabel Kane and I’m a sophomore at DePaul University in Chicago. I am currently majoring in Criminology, and double minoring in Theater and Digital Cinema—a lot going on, I know! I am also a student at the Second City Chicago, currently training in the improv program and now I am writing for this blog! I am so excited to share with you all what I love about fashion.
Fashion has always played a significant role in my life, thanks to my mother; she would always dress my three siblings and me up in matching Burberry, or Moschino’s children’s line. Trust me, I haven’t always been this into fashion. My mom picked out my clothes for me until about fifth grade; that’s when my love for fashion turned into a love for colored skinny jeans, studded belts, band shirts and all things Hot Topic. I thought that the only way I could truly express myself was by dressing that way. This was until freshman year of high school, when my mom did a closet clean out and gave me some of her designer pieces. Looking at her vintage Moschino, Alexander McQueen and Valentino, it showed me that these pieces scream individuality more than any Hot Topic rainbow belt does.
For anyone who follows me on Pinterest, they know how much my style is evolving. One day I could be wearing an outfit inspired by Margot Robbie’s wardrobe in the movie Focus, and another day I could be wearing an outfit inspired by Ashley Benson’s very own street style. However, one thing that is consistent in my personal style is edginess. Whether I am going to a comedy show or getting lunch with my girls, I always like to have one aspect of my outfit stand out, whether it’s my Moschino phone case, Chanel Espadrilles or even my beloved Alexander McQueen purse.
What fashion has taught me over the past couple of years is that it’s not about where you get it, it’s about what you find. For example, one of my favorite sundresses that I own is from Target! You don’t need a massive budget to have the wardrobe of your dreams. You can have a Blair Waldorf worthy closet with a Dan Humphrey budget.
