ALL IN THE DETAILS: A Fall Flux

September is such a moody month when it comes to weather, especially in Ohio. It may be mid-September, but we still have 90-degree weather here at Kent State. Fall is one of my favorite seasons solely based on the cozy, layered clothing. When I think of fall I think sweaters, scarves and booties, however, all I can think of this season are tank tops, flip flops and water bottles. Living in northeast Ohio all my life, I have gotten used to a chilly summer or a hot fall. Transitioning outfits from the summer season to the fall season can be tricky. In spite of that, I am excited to give you some simple, easy, but always fabulous style tips on creating the best fall/summer conversion look.

Above is a chic, transitional outfit I spotted on campus last week. This gem overall took her fall shift look to the next level. The top is actually a sleeveless dress that hits right above the knee. The side tie gives the outfit visual appeal and character. Not only is this shirt dress a perfect way to switch summer trends into fall trends, it is also a penny pincher. As a broke college student, I love finding ways to repurpose clothes season to season.

Paired with the recycled dress is a destroyed ankle jean, which could not be a more perfect combination. Destroyed jeans go with anything in my opinion. Here, the ripped jeans are very harmonized with the top because they really bring a sense of summer and warmth to the fall season. She executed this look by taking two basic ideas and giving them personal edge and weather practicality. Who knew jeans and a T-shirt combo could be so trendy?

Let’s not forget the details! Accessories are so important. In addition to adding sparkle to an outfit, cute jewelry is such an easy way to showcase your personality. The gold necklace and bracelet give shine and attitude to this ensemble. Gold accents give off classy autumn vibes. Accompanying the gold accessories are accents of black. Summer, fall, winter, spring black is always in style. I adore these mini platform sandals along with The Fashion School graphic tote and dark circular shades. These three extras really advertise a summery feel.

How To: Dig through your clothes and combine summer and fall trends into one outfit. Whether it is pairing a chiffon tank top with a new pair of jeans or simply wearing a mini dress with knee high boots, get creative with your look! Originality is key. In the words of Alexander McQueen, ‘Fashion should be a form of escapism, and not a form of imprisonment.’
