ALL IN THE DETAILS: A Moment In The Sun

Yellow has been having a moment this spring. If we didn’t know before, Rihanna’s show-stopping gown at the Met Gala definitely solidified it. Pops of the sunny hue were present all over the spring 2015 runways and pervaded street style looks during New York Fashion Week a few months ago.

Obviously, I was drawn to this eye-catching color when I saw this Fashionista strolling through the streets of Amsterdam. Not only is she wearing the color of the moment, but the rest of her outfit is incredibly on point.

This Fashionista wore a lemon yellow blouse as the only pop of color in an all-black outfit, and it totally works. The yellow really takes the look to the next level. Her black duster and mules give it an edgy vibe while her round tortoise shell sunglasses bridge the gap between her bright top and the rest of the outfit.

I love that she paired a traditionally light, summery color with heavier, edgier pieces. Using color to warm up an outfit is a great idea for those of us who live in colder climates where May still feels like winter. These shoes are also a perfect piece for transitional weather. They mimmic heavy boots but the open toe is great for when the sun comes out. All in all, this Fashionista’s trendy look is perfect for a cool May in Amsterdam.

How To: There are several ways that this trendy color can be incorporated into your wardrobe. One way is color-blocking. Pairing a yellow article of clothing with other saturated tones such as cobalt blue or apple green is a bold way to experiment with color trends this spring. Another way to get your yellow fix is to pair it with other more subdued colors or neutrals. This technique can be just as bold as color-blocking, as yellow always makes a statement.
