With the end of the semester quickly approaching, it is safe to say that summer is on the mind of every student on campus. Who can focus on equations and research papers when three months of sun, beach days and nightly bonfires await us? As we bury ourselves in textbooks and lecture notes, we can at least channel a bit of summer in our outfits. Adding a colorful piece of jewelry or a pair of sunglasses can give a slight glimmer of hope for the glorious days to come.
One pre-summer trend that I have been noticing around campus lately is lace fabric. I am seeing lace headbands, dresses, skirts and even shoes. People are preparing for the warmth with this lighter, more delicate fabric. Lace can add a touch of femininity to any ensemble and the color possibilities are endless. In particular, I am seeing a lot of lace detailing on tops, which adds so much interest to any basic tank top or T-shirt.
I spotted this Fashionista walking to class wearing a top that is most definitely ready for the summer months. She wears a flowy lavender tank top with lace detailing near the neckline. On the bottom, she wears a simple pair of dark-wash skinny jeans and pointed-toe tan flats. Her subtle use of lace creates a perfect warm weather look without recalling a swimsuit cover-up.
How To: Want to put a little summer into your late spring outfits? Add a touch of lace in anticipation for a day of tanning at the beach. A top with lace detailing can be paired with a basic pair of jeans (like above) or, as it gets warmer, a pair of high-waisted shorts. Lace details can also be added with a simple headband or even a baseball hat.
