The temperature just rose above zero and, guys, it’s time to run outside and frolic in shorts and tank tops! Okay, maybe not quite yet, but if you ask me, this definitely qualifies for spring weather here in Montreal.
Spring is a synonym for florals and pastels, so basically pile on all the cuteness in your wardrobe, right? If a baby pink and mint green outfit just so pleases you and gets you in the mood for spring, then I’m all for it! But if you’re like me and want to preserve a little sophistication and edge in your look, then you’ll really appreciate this Fashionista’s style.
Our Fashionista showcases the textbook way to style a monochromatic outfit—stack on those contrasting textures. She wore statement checkered pants to perfection, which are slimming enough to accentuate her figure with just a tad of bagginess for a laid back vibe. The length complements the cool ankle boots. While the black shirt and long coat kept the entire look super streamlined, the aviators added a little “oomph” to it.
What really brightened my eyes was the Fashionista’s combination of so many different textures. The leather of the boots and gloves, the structured cotton of the trousers, the soft cotton and a touch of mesh of the top, the wool of the coat and the knit of the beanie all bounced off of each other beautifully. Even her backpack was a matte faux leather material. She demonstrated for us that an outfit that is lacking in colors could be made interesting with textures.
How To: For a first-time texture-mixer, try the combination of a leather jacket, a cable knit and a lightweight silky maxi skirt. This is a classic mix and match that cannot go wrong!
