Simplicity—that’s what I like my jewelry to have. Jewelry should never overwhelm an outfit, but compliment it. So when I spied this Fashionista making her way downtown, I had to stop and ask her about her look. With necklaces adorned, and a true statement ring, this look does go slightly past my rule of simplicity, but that doesn’t mean I’m always right (my boyfriend is secretly nodding his head in agreement).
Initially, she brought to my attention the long pendant that seemed to perfectly lay against her loose, white top. Wearing long necklaces with flowy tops is a wonderful layer, as the two compliment each other in ways that a flowy top and a choker do not. This pendant also has meaning behind it, as it’s from Brother Wolf jewelry, a company that highlights different saints and mystics in all of their pieces. Many stylish individuals find clever ways to incorporate keep-sakes into their looks, such as this Fashionista has effortlessly done.
One piece that just cannot be ignored is the eye-catching ring that graces this Fashionista’s finger. Now, I’m normally not one for chunky rings, but I will admit that I found myself asking where she got it from. If your color scheme is neutral, then 10/10, I recommend going for a statement piece of jewelry. It’ll add a little wow factor, making your look stand out just that much more.
Now, let’s throw it back a year or two ago to when stacking necklaces graced nearly every issue of Vogue and Seventeen. Like most trends, they fade in and out with time. Eventually we’ll see Animal Rubber Bands stacked around kids’ wrists again. Recently I have seen stacked necklaces popping up again, in fashion stores and on girls in my classes. And I will say, I really like the look when it’s done the way our Fashionista here has done it—simple pieces delicately laid together at the right length. Pan up to the pair of dangling earrings that compliment her blonde hair, and this look brings back great trends to a modern age.
All of her jewelry greatly adds to her outfit. The outfit, which can easily be worn out or to class, is already perfectly laid out. I especially dig her choice in black, ripped skinny jeans (which I am always a fan of) and elegantly detailed flats (which seriously come in handy on any college campus). I still stand that jewelry is best when it’s simplistic, but risks can and do pay off.
