There are countless reasons to love summer, from not having school to attending music festivals. One of my favorite things about the season is the bohemian style that seems to be popular summer after summer. Bohemia is defined as “a person who has informal or unconventional habits, especially an artist or writer.” Therefore, to me, bohemian style is all about having the freedom to express yourself and be unique, even artistic, with your style. A large part of having a great bohemian style lies in the details.
Bohemian details were the exact reason I was drawn to photograph this specific Fashionista. This art student expressed her artistic nature and unique personality through a intricate cross-body bag, simple gold earrings and several silver rings. She said that she is “drawn to unique silhouettes and patterns,” which is apparent in this look. The mixture of different metals and patterns are what really makes these accessories the perfect bohemian pieces, and great additions to this outfit in particular. When I asked where she draws her inspiration from, she said, “I just buy what I like, but if I’m looking for inspiration I’ll look at magazines like i-D and Dazed.”
How To: A great way to start introducing bohemian style into your wardrobe is with accessories. Try a fun fringe cross-body bag, or stack up some turquoise rings and layer on some necklaces. Free People is both my and this Fashionista’s go-to store when shopping for anything and everything boho, but Free People can run a little pricey. If you are looking for this look for less, try ModCloth, or this fashionista recommends hitting up your local thrift shop where you can sometimes stumble upon a vintage bohemian gem.
