This Fashionisto’s ensemble is a wonderful example of how to carefully create an outfit with pieces from different style “genres”. The outfit is casual and comfortable, has some hipster/skater vibes, and also has an element of sophistication. It’s a classy look in which comfort does not equate with laziness and personal style is highlighted.
The focal point of this look is the brightly colored sweater. It’s a quality knitwear piece from Old Navy that features a geometric stripe pattern. As I mentioned in my Style Guru Bio, I adore stripes so you can guess why I love this particular piece so much! In addition to the pattern, the navy serves as a strong base color for the look and the fit lends to a look of sophistication. It can be found here.
Along with the sweater, this Fashionisto is wearing a pair of khaki joggers, a type of pant I have dubbed “jackies”. It seems that males are now too being forced into a no-pocket lifestyle (these pants originally featured closed seam pockets) but this Fashionisto informed me that he had the pockets opened with a seam ripper. The pants are comfortable but also structured enough to prevent the outfit from seeming sloppy. Joggers are very trendy right now so their incorporation in this outfit keeps the look modern.
The shoes this Fashionisto chose for his outfit are a pair of simple gray Vans (my favorite type of shoe to pair with joggers) similar to these. They have clearly been worn-in which adds a relaxed vibe to the outfit. The neutral gray also defers focus to the sweater, the aforementioned focal point. To top the outfit off, this Fashionisto wore a Neff beanie in a dark heather gray color. This addition also relaxed the outfit, adding a skater feel. It is reportedly one of the Fashionisto’s favorite pieces and he wears it frequently so it served as subtle personal flair. It pairs nicely with the shoes, making for two interesting additions to the overall look.
The color scheme of this outfit is what makes it work so well. The colors of the sweater, blue being the strong base and the yellows and reds being the accent colors, were carefully balanced with muted grays and browns to create a striking look. Had the sweater been paired with jeans, the blue tones would have been overpowering. The “jackies” keep the color scheme balanced and add a more unique twist. The same goes for the coloring of the hat and shoes, had they been brightly colored, the focus on the sweater and pants would have been taken away. This outfit is a new classic and can easily be recreated with a variety of items from any closet. Next time you are out shopping, focus on locating unique sweaters, joggers, and maybe even a pair of “jackies!”
