ALL IN THE DETAILS: Cover Your Bases

If there’s one thing I’ve learned while living in New York City this summer, it’s that no matter what the occasion, you must be dressed to impress. In this case, that meant walking miles in the beaming New York sun for Sunday’s Smorgasburg, a popular Brooklyn and NYC flea market on the weekends, in “real” clothes. Despite the hundreds of food vendors present and my desire to show up in a workout outfit and sneakers, I knew I had to resist the urge. I couldn’t eat everything in sight; my wallet just wouldn’t allow it (nor my stomach) and after all, I was in New York!

But dressing to impress in the hot summer sun isn’t only limited to the articles of clothing on your body. This Fashionista nailed this weekend wear by rocking a simple pair of Madewell denim shorts and a textured black and white top, but dressed up her outfit with standout accessories. From head to toe, this Fashionista covered all of her accessory bases without fail.

This Fashionista chose to wear a navy floppy hat along with a killer pair of thick circle framed sunglasses. Floppy hats have been a trend for the past few years that have no intention of leaving anytime soon. Not only are they practical in regards to protection, but can also dress up almost any casual getup. And aren’t these Karen Walker sunglasses amazing? This New Zealand designer knows how to make eyewear fun and I’m debating buying a pair of my own.

The older I get, the more essential I’m starting to realize a handbag is. This Fashionista’s black Chloé bag with gold buckles is absolutely stunning. It’s simple yet classy, and extremely versatile. As is any black bag, which is why you should have one in your closet, regardless of the designer!

There are so many possibilities when it comes to jewelry, and although this Fashionista decided to stay neutral it still made a bold statement. Every one of her bracelets have a different story, whether a Lokai bracelet she bought while traveling or a piece passed down to her from her grandfather. And while each piece is different, she made them all work together. And don’t forget the fun rings on either hand! Standout pieces include David Yurman’s signature cable bracelet on her right wrist, the handsome silver watch sitting on her left wrist and the stunning and timeless four leaf clover around her neck.

How To: Although this Fashionsta chose the simple route with her clothes, there was nothing simple in her accessory choices. The first step in getting this look is making sure all your bases are covered. It doesn’t matter what designer you’re rocking, but some things are essential in a wardrobe—sunglasses, handbag, bracelets, watch, etc. It’s just about putting all the pieces of the puzzle together at the same time!
