I’m a firm believer that less is more and a DIY distressed denim jean is the perfect way to have on more for less money. An edgy and stylish distressed jean can always turn any outfit into a statement, but searching for the perfect pair of distressed jeans that fits your personal liking can be quite stressful. It can turn a pleasant trip to the mall into a savage denim hunt!
Sometimes, when you spot the perfect pair of jeans, you take a glimpse at the price tag and it immediately makes you feel like you have to check your bank account. Despite the cool rips and what is left of the fabric, the jeans begin to become more of a want and less of a need. The next best option is to take matters into your own hands: grab a pair of scissors and start cutting!
This is what today’s stylish Fashionisto did after he was walking through Zara and spotted a pair of distressed denim that was not worth retail the price. With a little inspiration and creativity, he transformed an ordinary pair of jeans into a one-of-a-kind denim creation. Creating an original look is an easy way for any Fashionisto/a to upgrade his or her closet in a matter of minutes. This Fashionisto said to me, “Yesterday, I looked at my jeans and said to myself: ‘These are boring.’ I really wanted the jeans from Zara, so I went home and made my own pair!”
He matched the distressed jeans with a gold-plated Micheal Kors watch and grey distressed BDG sweatshirt from Urban Outfitters, along with a pair of white sneakers from Aldo’s sister store, Call it Spring. He also told me that when he was making his jeans, he made the distressed design look similar to the sweater in order to keep the look cohesive.
How To: The distressed jeans look is not hard to do, and it’s a great excuse to take out those old jeans and recreate something new. To find out how to make your own pair, I recommend searching for tutorials on Youtube. All you will need is an old pair of jeans, scissors, safety pins and tweezers. Just follow the Youtube tutorial basics and have fun!
