“Hey Macklemore, can we go thrift shopping?” repeated in my head as I scanned this Fashionista’s look, and as my attention immediately gravitated toward her playful fur coat. At first glance, this look instantly gave me a vintage ‘70s vibe.
In recent years, the trendiest items on the fashion scene have been those brought back from past decades in order to give a “throwback” feel, such as chokers, high-waisted bottoms, crop tops, and platform shoes much like the infamous Dr. Martens boots. To continue with a retro theme, this Fashionista layered her chestnut and cream faux fur coat from Hollister with a white bell-sleeved crop top from Forever 21 underneath, which clasps in the front.
A fur coat is not exactly a simple piece, so in order to keep it as the focus of the ensemble, she paired the top with burgundy corduroy bell bottom pant from Express. To prevent an eye sore, it is a crucial move to select solid colors for a top and bottom when wearing a jacket, vest, or overcoat with a busy pattern. Corduroy has made an appearance frequently in wardrobes, being exhibited in the form of overalls, dresses, and button-up skirts.
This Fashionista kept it simple for jewelry by selecting a gold staple necklace, as one should do while sporting an intense statement such as a fur coat. To protect from the sun’s rays while also contributing an extra element to her look, this Fashionista is rocking a pair of transparent rose aviator frames, purchased from a vintage clothing store in Tallahassee called Curio. The style of these sunglasses have been a major trend recently, commonly found with lenses in hues such as yellow and orange. They always remind me of something an actor or actress would wear in a movie scene filmed in the California desert, while riding in an old-fashioned Thunderbird. I don’t know, maybe it’s just me.
Finally, to tie the entire look together, this Fashionista slipped on some black suede platform heels from Nine West. Not that this outfit was exactly casual before, but this choice of footwear definitely adds a level of sophistication, making it ideal for either a day downtown or a night out–more specifically, one spent at the disco. Groovy, baby!
