As the famous Miranda Priestly of The Devil Wears Prada once said, “Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.” Even if Miranda won’t admit to it, it’s in every Fashionista’s blood to break out those floral blouses and skirts at the first sight of those yellow dandelions that my parents call weeds. Since Ohio is fighting off the warm weather as long as it can (cue eye roll) this Fashionista figured out how to show off her spring fever while still staying warm. Let’s check it out!
Before we dive into how obsessed we all are with a classic floral skirt for spring, I have a confession. I proudly admit that the ONE thing I don’t like about the summer season is that I have to give up my sweaters for an entire four months. This Fashionista agrees and is clinging on to these staple pieces as long as Ohio climate will allow. Now back to florals for spring! This is why Fashionistas break out this pattern at the first ray of spring sunlight: it can go with anything. In 90-degree weather, pair your high-waisted floral skirt with a lace crop top. In 45 degree weather, layer it with a lightweight sweater and some knee-high boots.
This Fashionsta wore a simple sweater to balance out the activity in the skirt directly below. That’s a secret about florals, you have to balance it with a piece that will not draw attention away from this popular pattern because, similar to real flowers, floral patterns are meant to be noticed and admired. This Fashionista incorporated the light crème color of her sweater into her knit knee-high socks hidden behind her boots. From top to bottom, this Fashionista’s ensemble is winter, spring and winter again. It’s a struggle to break out the spring/summer clothes when living in Ohio but hey, a girl’s got to do what a girl’s got to do.
How To: Florals don’t have to only come in the form of skirts. Floral capri pants paired with a solid blazer and flats prove that this pattern can have a sophisticated side. That country concert you’re going to later that night, however, is the time to break out the white skirt and floral crop top. The opportunities are limitless…experiment away!
