Fashion is liberation and though at times it may seem overwhelming, fashion enables individuals to present each and every part of their identity outwards. This Fashionista did exactly that. Her outfit is comprised of thrifty finds, gifts and passed down jewelry. Each item has a powerful significance to her.
This Fashionista’s inspiration for this outfit stemmed from her emotions, the state of her hair and the weather. It was a rainy and humid day so this Fashionista took that into consideration and used her thrifted corduroy shorts as the foundation to her ensemble. Pairing the shorts with black knee-high socks added fun and functionality to the outfit. This pulls the whole look together and also keeps her legs dry from the spurts of downpour.
This Fashionista’s patterned headwrap was strategic but stylish and it protected her hair from the rain while adding a unique and eye-catching element to her outfit. Her headwrap and layered necklaces add a feminine touch to the outfit. The elephant necklace draws attention to the bold outline of Africa that is printed on her sweatshirt. In contrast to her accessories, her color-block graphic sweatshirt and Timberland boots add a sense of masculinity to the outfit. This combination of feminine and masculine aspects is powerful and exemplifies how versatile and expressive fashion can be.
