ALL IN THE DETAILS: Going for Gold

On your mark, get set, GO! Back to school, that is.

As fall quarter begins here at DePaul, many of us are busy planning our first-day-of-school looks in the hopes to dress for success. If only our outfits determined our grades, class would be a much more exciting event to attend at eight in the morning. Oh, well. We soldier on.

And we do so with style.

No stranger to style, this Fashionista opted for a first-day-of-school look that keeps it casual, but doesn’t go as far as sweatpants and a T-shirt – a look we’ve all thought about throwing on before that early morning class. Thank goodness she resisted temptation, because she is killing it in her blue-on-blue ensemble.

The off-the-shoulder blouse has been trending since it made a splash in both New York and Paris in several designers’ spring ’16 collections. Lucky for us college students, the shoulder-bearing beauty has found a home in stores such as Zara, H&M and Topshop – “boutiques” much easier on our often empty wallets.

But it isn’t the blouse, seen here with a vintage pair of cut-off, high-wasted shorts, that takes this look from average to all-star. Tying it all together is this gal’s attention to that coveted “color.” Yes, I’m talking gold, gold, gold! The Olympics may be over, but inspiration is everywhere, and this Fashionista is rocking the prized metallic in subtle, but show-stopping ways.

Seen here in her gold detailed adidas kicks – a trend that has since been revived from its early 2000s fashion grave – this wannabe-Olympian donned her favorite leather backpack from Harrods, the London luxury department store. Now this is a bag that screams casual, cute, and if she isn’t toting her over-sized textbooks around, even functional.

Bringing the look home is an adorable gold “BABE” friendship necklace paired with a black velvet choker – a look that has catapulted to the forefront of today’s trends and makes the perfect statement when dressing to impress.

So, if you’re looking for the perfect style inspiration for your first day of school, think about going for gold, and you just might make history.
