ALL IN THE DETAILS: Grayscale Chic

As the minimalistic look is becoming more and more popular, people tend to stick to the basics. Most elements of an outfit are black and white along with the occasional pop of color. The key is sophisticated simplicity. We all have our closet staples: a few plain T-shirts, the six pairs of black pants you hoard, a bomber jacket, and your go-to jean jacket. In my personal style, I like to jazz things up a bit so I go to my jewelry box and choose as many necklaces as I can before it looks tacky. To finish the look, I’ll pick out a couple rings, maybe brush my hair, slip on my favorite Converse, and I’m ready to run out the door to make it to class on time!

This Fashionista found her suede coat at H&M and was attracted to it because of its ability to add a sleek feel to any look. Seattle is known for its city grunge look. Every store sells a leather jacket or all the different versions of a side zip black coat to be exact. The side zip styled jacket is a classic, and it’s been a fixture for the last 60 years. That goes for all leather jackets as well, since they date all the way back to the popular greaser era during the ’50s.

When I saw her on campus, I immediately noticed the attention to detail in her ensemble. There was no color, but there was still a pop from her sparkly accessories. She found her gorgeous velvet ankle booties at Public Desire. They are a subtle statement piece, but she admitted to wearing them no less than twice a week. Instead of a basic black and white pairing, this Fashionista chose a shirt with stripes and tied it to show an effortless harmony.

In her final touches, she mixed a bold jeweled necklace with a few small ones which are all from Urban Outfitters and Forever 21. For contrast, she also incorporated a few bracelets and one of which is a stunning silver Kate Spade New York bangle bracelet.

If your basics feel like they’re getting too basic, don’t be afraid to add a little panache!
