ALL IN THE DETAILS: Hat Trick

Part of me has always wanted to be a Southern Belle. As charming as the midwest is, it is not nearly as charming as a sunny South Carolina day or a southern gentlemen showing up to my porch with a bouquet of lilies to take me on a date. I think I’m just fantasizing, but still. I could always go for a good rack of ribs. As I’ve been perusing the online pages of Free People and Planet Blue, I’ve noticed the overwhelming presence of the sunhat. The sunhat, an iconic accessory worn at the Kentucky Derby or on sunny Sunday afternoons in Georgia, is making a mainstream comeback. What started off as a West Coast trend à la Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella turned into a coast-to-coast craze. Hollywood starlets like Miss Hudgens and fashion innovators like Pharrell Williams sparked a trend trend that is seen everywhere may it be fall, spring or summer.

This Fashionista makes a statement in her sunhat. I’m obsessed. Her otherwise minimalistic ensemble is transformed by this simple accessory. She dons quiet pieces such as a ribbed, dark green cropped tank top and pairs it with a chic asymmetrical skirt. The pairing is modest and sleek. She adds a pair of black strappy sandals for a comfortable go-to. Lastly, she literally tops off her look with a black oversized sunhat for shade and a classy, feminine visual appeal. This look is so simple and style savvy—anyone can pull it off.

How To: Hats are a great transition piece. Grab any wide brimmed hat, it doesn’t have to be a sunhat. Work it in with neutral layers for crisper climate or pair it with ethereal maxi dress for a sunny fall day.
