Hats were never my thing. I always found it difficult to find one that would fit my head correctly. Occasionally, I would take a page from the cool ’90s kids and rock a backwards cap but that was the the extent of my hat wearing. In recent seasons, the baseball cap has made quite the stir and has forced me out of my hat-phobia. The girls on the runways were looking super sporty and super cute and I wanted a piece of the action. After much trial and tribulation, I finally gave the trend a try and noticed other Fashionistas were taking a stab at it as well.
When I spotted this Fashionista rocking a forwards baseball cap I thought, YES. She was owning that hat! The key to successfully rocking this trend is to pair it with a killer outfit. On top, she wore a velvet tank top which she tied below the bust. Showing a little midriff breaks up the look and adds a bit of personality to the look. She paired the top with vintage light wash jeans. Let’s be honest, you can never go wrong with high-waisted denim. Any Fashionista will tell you that. They are the perfect combination of style and comfort and they will never go out of style. Another item that will never go out of style? Converse sneakers. This Fashionista chose an all black pair to complement her look. I am an enormous fan of the feminine/masculine juxtaposition in one look. Her gold hoop earrings were a game changer. I loved them almost as much as her baseball cap. They are such a bold accessory and make quite the statement. While the rest of her look speaks to the athletic roots of the baseball cap, the earrings add a feminine touch to the look.
How To: There are no rules when it comes to styling your baseball caps. We have been conditioned to think “sporty” when it comes to the trend, but the fashion industry is working diligently to change that. Turn heads by pairing your baseball cap with a rad dress and killer statement earrings.
