ALL IN THE DETAILS: Increasingly Parisian

I firmly believe that regardless of the season, you can never go wrong with black jeans and a statement shoe. I never considered myself a proponent of the pointed toe until I recently read Emily Farra’s article “Fall’s Best Boots for Under $500” on Vogue and couldn’t help but notice the persistence of this style. While I don’t have $500 to spend on a pair of Dorateymur shoes (sighs), I can still participate in the trend in my own way. The classic and forever flattering look of black pants paired with a peacoat is quite frankly one of the best aspects of fall. Forget about the always “Instagrammable” thigh-high socks and ubiquitous autumn-inspired lattes and recognize that outerwear eclipses everything else when it comes to fall favorites. The great thing about this time of year, also, is that the weather hasn’t gotten cold enough to demand “real” layers (i.e. I’m not wearing fleece tights underneath my skinny jeans just yet), but instead the temperature calls for cute coats: bombers, leather jackets, trenches, etc.

Coming from California, it’s hard for me to get behind weather that is anything other than 70 degrees and sunny, except for when it comes to seasons that necessitate structured knee-length peacoats and military-inspired double breasted jackets. The Zara outerwear collections have never failed to disappoint and their website is a great place to look for outfit making coats, jackets and knitwear for varying budgets and degrees of coldness. This season, I urge you to experiment with a Mandarin collar or go for a long (like, below the knees long) hooded coat.

This Fashionista came to visit Rome this weekend and I was completely taken with her effortlessly chic and increasingly Parisian sense of style. I quickly became obsessed with her burgundy cross-body bag and simple gold watch that looks like it came out of Salvador Dali’s The Persistence of Memory. Her distinctly European black heeled boots add such an element of elegance to this look and elevate her “simple” black jeans, as do the pleated back details of her polyester top.
