ALL IN THE DETAILS: It's the Little Things

The most important aspect in creating a stylish outfit unique to you, is how you accessorize it. My style icon, Iris Apfel, once said, “My mother knew if you bought a couple of really good architectural outfits, and put your money into accessories, you could create a million different looks.” As a college student balling on a budget, the best way to be fashionable at an affordable cost, is to buy simple staple pieces and accessorize the same look in a different way each time.

This rad Fashionista has some pretty awesome details to her outfit. Sporting a black tank, jeans and a grey cardigan, this girl transformed her basic staple pieces into a stylish, fashion forward look.

Her signature look is layering her jewelry. She told me she wears the same gold necklace and rings everyday, but mixes it up by adding other necklaces and bracelets to the look, like the choker and bangles in her look from today. The purple lace bralette and fringe on her cropped jeans are a simple and unique twist on the two basic staples of her outfit.

My favorite details of this Fashionista’s outfit, are her metallic and chevron platform sandals, and her Betsey Johnson taco bag. Although these two accessories are pretty eccentric, the rest of the details in her outfit are unique and simple, creating a perfect balance.

How To: Keep in mind that if you are wanting to layer a lot of fun accessories together, it’s important to make sure that the rest of your outfit is somewhat simple. When it comes to layering, it’s all about balance. If you’re going all out with your accessories, you don’t want to overdo it with a crazy outfit, too. Start with the basics. Grab a basic graphic tee or solid color top, and pair it with some denim. Once you have your basic outfit, build your accessories from there. If you are wary about layering multiple pieces of jewelry together, start with delicate pieces of the same color. Don’t forget to have fun! Let your personality shine through, and lets keep fashion fun, just the way it should be.
