ALL IN THE DETAILS: Just Bead It

It’s not Thursday, but I’m going to throw it back anyway—in elementary school, I was one of those chicks who loved anything glittered and (supposedly) glamorous. In this sense, I wasn’t unique, since most nine-year-old girls are freakishly obsessed with anything that sparkles in the sun. And, I continued to further validate that argument; Limited Too was my favorite store, Sharpay Evans from High School Musical had the cutest closet ever and sequined, velour tracksuits were a total “do.”

If I remember properly, I didn’t abandon the “glitzy girl” phase until junior high, where my 12-year-old self decided that Avril Lavigne’s style, circa 2007, was ideal. I considered dip-dye hair extensions to be rebellious, and by December, patent leather Dr. Martens were at the top of my Christmas wish list. I could go on about my past years (and regrets) for a few more grueling hours, but I’ll save that torture for another time. Instead, I’d much rather talk about how this week’s Fashionista pulls off dip-dyed hair and delightfully colorful sweaters better than anyone I’ve seen before, making my younger selves incredibly jealous. Heck, as I write this, I’m still applauding this cool lookin’ chick.

Our Fashionista’s smile deserves a RAD itself—I mean, it was practically contagious. As I photographed her teal moccasin booties, she revealed that they were from Target (unexpected, but totally true). The footwear’s hue matched the blues and greens of her floral print dress.

On top, the outfit was made with a fuzzy, beige piece, decked out in colorful beads, sequins and adorable pearl buttons. One thing is for sure: this masterpiece of a sweater can’t be found in your local Target. With its abundance of details, a vivid cardigan, like the one shown, could be worn with pretty much anything, even if the complementing item is a classic pair of jeans or black cropped leggings (like the ones photographed).

How To: Stressed about where you’re gonna find a sweater as awesome as our Fashionista’s? Head to your local Goodwill, and make those clothing racks your best friend. For a simple, sharp look, just pair it with solid colored bottoms.
